What political issues do Latinos consider the most important?

It’s often assumed that immigration is the chief political issue for Latino Americans — but most Latinos do not even rank immigration among their top three areas of concern. Between 30 and 35 percent say immigration is “extremely important,” while nearly half of all Latinos say jobs and education are “extremely important.” Healthcare comes in third. [Source]

In an interview with BillMoyers.com, pollster Sylvia Manzano of Latino Decisions said that social issues related to religion also don’t play a large part in informing the Latino vote.

“They go to church at higher rates and are more likely to say that religion plays an important role in their lives,” said Manzano. “But when we asked what issues matter most, abortion and same-sex marriage come in last. They rank lower than ‘don’t know.'”
