The 99% Spring

The Issue: Democratic Reform, Workers Rights

The Initiative: The 99% Spring is a weeklong series of trainings in April about economic inequality and non-violent action techniques.

Bill Moyers interviews organizer George Goehl.

Background: The 99% Spring is being organized by a coalition of over 40 national and local groups and movement leaders — including George Goehl, Sarita Gupta and Ai-jen Poo — who “envision a new economy that the 99% can count on.”

From April 9-15, 2012, 99% Spring organizers plan to gather 100,000 people across America, in homes, places of worship, campuses and the streets to join together in the work of reclaiming our country. They are organizing trainings to:

  • Tell the story of our economy: how we got here, who’s responsible, what a different future could look like, and what we can do about it
  • Learn the history of non-violent direct action, and
  • Get into action on our own campaigns to win change.

There are already over 890 trainings planned around the country.

I’ve been trying to get Bill Moyers to come to Sarasota, Florida, to speak to our Tiger Bay Club.  I contacted you last year, but no response.  How about a book signing in May?

Thanks, I just saw your show and signed up for the local group training in my City – it is lead by a Priest who was one of my high school instructors 30+ years ago.

Some Occupy Spring protests and events might like to include a delectable and “piece-able” way to highlight America’s economic inequality and lopsided federal budget: serve some Occu-Pies and Bar Graph Cakes!

Nothing like a bunch of proggies and commies getting together under the false banner of improving democracy and expanding economic opportunity.  If you truly represent the 99%, the US is beyond hope or saving.

  • scline

If rep the 1% we invite you to add your input to change the US now.  I think 100% would it is not working now and 100% of us would have a better chance at changing this broke system

Move On is nothing but a front for the Democratic party, a group that had no problems supporting the insidious, Republican, profit based health care plan also known as Obamacare, and to associate Springs 99 with OWS is a farce.

    Shame on you Bill Moyers.

You would be doing this country a better favor by finding and supporting your local area’s OWS or National Peoples Action group.

I’m not sure what your problem is, but I would like to thank Bill Moyers for his fine show.   I like to hear about ways to help our country.   Bill, please don’t retire.  We need your guidance.
