Who Else Does Trump Tweet About at 4 a.m.? Why Bill Moyers, Of Course

We discover only now that the Donald was unhappy with our reporting in 2013 on his bulldozing of a Scottish seascape long accessible to everyone into a golf course for the privileged few. How did we find out?

Hard to remember a time when Donald Trump’s Twitter rants weren’t prominent on our radar. But it came to our attention today that back in 2013 our website and Bill Moyers were the subject of some classic Donald Trump tweets. Imagine our surprise.

That spring, it seems, we had posted an update on Trump’s fight with the Scottish government over his aggressive efforts to build “the greatest golf course in the world” across ancient sand dunes in Scotland. Local residents and environmentalists protested against the project, citing concerns about damage to the pristine coastlines on which Trump intended to build. Scottish filmmaker Anthony Baxter chronicled the fight in his documentary, You’ve Been Trumped!, and Bill interviewed him and featured the film on Moyers & Company in the summer of 2012.

Later the following March, we reported that Trump was fuming over a Scottish government decision to build wind turbines just off the coast of Trump’s golf course, a proposal that Trump characterized as “ridiculous” because he believed it would ruin the view of the sea for golfers on his course. He threatened to put the project on hold, unless the government relented. We once again linked to our Moyers & Company story and Bill’s interview with Baxter.

Apparently, that set him off. A week later, two thin-skinned tweets were lobbed from @realDonaldTrump.

The first, sent mid-afternoon, traveled back in time and took aim at a 2008 interview that Bill Moyers did with Rev. Jeremiah Wright shortly after the minister became embroiled in a controversy over his relationship with presidential candidate Barack Obama and his remarks about race.

The second, sent out at 4 a.m. the following day, criticized Bill’s work in classic Trumpian style.

It’s an honor that we dreamed not of, but we’ll continue working to be worthy of your petty scorn, @realDonaldTrump.

By the way, according to an article last week in The Scotsman, the wind turbine plan is moving forward and “it is thought the wind farm will be operational by the end of 2018.” The writer noted that although Trump had already sued three times to stop the turbines, without success, “he recently vowed he would ‘continue to fight this proposal on every possible front.'” We’ll keep you updated.
