In February, David and Francine Wheeler, the parents of a child killed in the Sandy Hook tragedy, joined notable musicians including Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul and Mary and the folk singer Dar Williams to perform a concert for the community. The Wheelers and Yarrow joined Bill on Moyers & Company to discuss the path forward for gun control advocates and the power of music to bring about both healing and social change.

Yarrow said the concert was about “restoring the heart and soul of a caring community.” Watch two of the songs they performed:

Francine Wheeler and Dar Williams sing “Family”

The Wheelers, Peter Yarrow and others sing “Blowing in the Wind”

I wish the rest of us could be as articulate, courageous and compassionate as Francine and David Wheeler. They have much to teach us.

I was very moved by this program, especially when they sang “Blowing in the Wind”.

I was deeply moved by this program and the concert footage. It was poignant, empowering, and compelling – I made the promise. In addition to these two powerful pieces from the concert I would love to see the whole thing. Anybody know if it’s available in it’s entirety?

WISH I COULD JUST HOLD THESE TWO AND SERVE THEM IN A SIGNIFICANT WAY- I STAND IN SOLIDARITY WITH THEM AND AM CALLING MY LEGISLATORS AND HOLDING MY REPUBLICAN FRIENDS THAT VOTED IN THE LEGISLATORS EQUALLY RESPONSIBLE BY SPEAKING OUT TO EACH OF THEM. I HONOR THESE PARENTS AND ALL THAT LOVED THEIR CHILD BY MY TAKING ACTION.

My heart is broken. But I disagree with Loel Lund – change is in the air. It is just a matter of time, but I am afraid that more people will die needlessly before this change takes place.
