The Issue: Banking Reform
The Initiative: National People’s Action, led by George Goehl, is mobilizing people to attend corporate shareholder meetings across the country to air their grievances and share their vision for a new economy that is fair to all Americans.
2011 Robin Hood action in Chicago produced by National People's Action
Background: National People’s Action and their coalition partners are asking people to join them to expose, pressure and challenge the companies they believe are most responsible for widening the gap between rich and poor, undermining our democracy: Bank of America, Sallie Mae, Wal-Mart, Verizon and Wells Fargo.
According to their website, the goals of the meetings taking place this spring are to:
- Train and mobilize tens of thousands of people;
- Put thousands of people face-to-face with corporate decision makers at shareholder meetings;
- And, make the imbalance of corporate power one of the top election issues.
