Thomas Cahill


Thomas Cahill is the best-selling author of six volumes of the prospective seven-volume series called The Hinges of History, in which he recounts formative moments, individuals and ideas that have shaped Western civilization. Among his books are How the Irish Saved Civilization, The Gifts of the Jews, Why the Greeks Matter and his latest Heretics and Heroes: How Renaissance Artists and Reformation Priests Created Our World.

Cahill is best known for taking on a broad scope of complex history and distilling it into an accessible and engaging narrative. His writing animates cultures that existed up to five millennia ago, revealing the lives of some of the most influential people in history with refreshing insight.

Prior to publishing his in-depth historical volumes, Cahill was the director of religious publishing for Doubleday.
