Janai Nelson, the associate director-counsel of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, served eight years as a law professor at St. John's University. She has studied voter disenfranchisement as a Fulbright Scholar in Ghana, and has written numerous articles on voting rights for both scholarly and popular publications.
