Leslie Marmon Silko

Leslie Silko was born in Albuquerque, NM and grew up on a Laguna Pueblo reservation. Silko is best known for the novel Ceremony (1977), which tells the story of Tayo, a half white, half Laguna Indian who returns to his reservation after fighting in World War II. Silko has won many major awards, including the Pushcart Prize for Poetry and the MacArthur “Genius” award.
