People in more than 90 cities around the country took to the streets on Thursday to protest the police shooting of an unarmed African-American teenager Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri. Here’s a collection of pictures from some of the rallies that took place in Washington, DC, New York City, St. Louis, Los Angeles and Omaha, Nebraska.

Thursday morning twitter user named @The_Blackness48 posted this photo of hundreds of black students at Howard University in solidarity with Michael Brown. The “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot” meme attracted a lot of attention in social media. This photo alone has been retweeted more than 14,000 times.

In New York City, this young man posed in front of an NYPD car. Hundreds of protesters marched to Times Square with their hands up in the air and chanting, “No Justice, No Peace, No Racist Police.”

Also in St. Louis, Missouri, hundreds of people took to the streets to show their solidarity.

In Los Angeles, according to Southern California Public Radio, about 500 people gathered in Leimert Park to join the nationwide protest for the killing of Michael Brown.

And in Nebraska, more than 30 students gathered in front of Nebraska State Capitol Building according to AP.

In Washington, DC, protests were organized in different areas. According to NBC 4 Washington, thousands participated in solidarity protest, where everyone chanted, “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot.”
It’s been a week since the fatal death of Michael Brown. The community has spoken, asking that justice be served. And for many kids of color, the “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot” meme has struck a chord.
